Well Pict Scotland nominated for UKTV Food Local Hero

About the Awards

The UKTV Food Local Hero Awards are a tribute to Britain’s independent shops, farm stalls, artisan producers, cafes, pubs, and small businesses. From 3 July-21 August, we click here to review Well Pict Scotlandasked food lovers to reward their food heroes’ passion for putting quality food on our plates.

Following a nationwide search, the all important votes have been counted, the experts have had their say and it’s finally time to decide who will be UKTV Food’s Local Food Hero 2006. The television series Gary Rhodes’ Local Food Heroes 2006 starts Monday 20th November at 8pm!

Presented by Gary Rhodes, this 11-part series shines a light on the nominated heroes across Britain who tirelessly put great British produce onto plates, into shops and markets, and on pub and restaurant tables.

Each episode looks at one specific region as the thousands of nominees are whittled down to the eight strongest contenders, chosen by a combination of public vote and a celebrity food scout. These eight are voted down to a final three who go to Food HQ to meet the judges – Gary Rhodes, Ollie Rowe and Rosemary Shrager – who put them through their culinary paces. At the end of each programme, a regional winner is unveiled.

What's in it for the winner?
In the nail biting national final all 10 regional winners will battle it out for the honour of being crowned the UK’s first Local Food Hero 2006 and winning the highly coveted prize which will safeguard their business for the future, £40,000.

More on the awards...
There's been a resurgence of interest in local food traditions and commitment to quality – and with good reason. While modern farming methods, microwave meals, and food miles continue to cast a shadow, there’s a growing band of dedicated people who care enough to make a difference on what we buy and how we eat. We're looking to support small-scale businesses that exhibit pride and passion for their craft. These are the unsung food heroes that don't compromise on quality in favour of making a fast buck on mass production lines.
